Revolution Rail – North Creek

Are you ready to try a different mode of transportation?  How about one that combines bicycling and railroading?  Try rail biking!  Rail biking is a pedal-powered adventure that lets you cruise down railroad tracks reborn for adventure. Packed with scenery and travel through unique landscapes on a custom-built rail bike—no steering, no stress, just pure fun.

Visiting Revolution Rail North Bridge in New York is a must-do for anyone looking to experience the beauty of the Adirondacks.  Are you ready to try this eco-friendly adventure?  It is a smooth, safe, and packed with scenery type of adventure. You will be treated to breathtaking river and forest views, and this includes views from a trestle bridge.  You will have a guide who will take you on the tracks that were never seen by passenger railroad cars.  You will ride on the rails that go along the Hudson River bank, where you will immerse yourself in picturesque views. You will have a memorable experience that combines exercise, nature, and history.  The good news is, you don’t have to be physically fit to ride.  Pedaling will be easy and you can take breaks when needed.  You will be riding along in either 2-person or 4-person rail cars. Keep the fun rolling along!

There is no minimum (or maximum!) age limit. Infants and children under 25 pounds may ride with an adult in a BabyBjörn-style harness. (Please supply your own.) Car seats are not allowed, as they don’t fit in the seats safely. Children able to sit up on their own or weighing over 25 pounds must have their own seat and may use our five-point harness to keep them safely riding. Lap riding is not allowed as it is unsafe. Children under 15 must ride with an adult on the same railbike. Revolution Rail’s oldest rider to date was 96 years old! Rail bikers can “share the pedaling,” especially on a quad bike. They regularly welcome families from multiple generations on our tours!

All railbike riders must be under 300 lbs. each.  Bring your camera, water, sunscreen, snacks, insect repellent, and appropriate outerwear based on the weather forecast (hats, windbreakers, rain gear, etc.).  Do not bring your pets, any drugs, or glass containers. Additionally, smoking is not permitted.  Bathrooms available at the station and an outhouse is available at the turnaround point.

Each run is different but as long as there is one person able to pedal the bike, then anyone of any age or ability can join on the ride. It is best enjoyed at a leisurely pace to give you a chance to take in your surroundings. On average, each leg of the trip is about 30-40 minutes of ride time with a 10-20 minute break while the hosts turn the bikes around. If you’re able to comfortably walk for 1.5 hours, then you should be able to ride the rail bike in stride.  Constant peddling is not required.

Lunch will be included for this tour and will be at Timber & Thyme Restaurant in the Ski Bowl Village at Gore Mountain, which is just a short half a mile away from the Revolution Rail Station.

Check out the new mosaic in North Creek, NY, the glass-blowing shop, and so many more little businesses.
