The Wild Center
Visiting The Wild Center in Tupper Lake is a must for anyone seeking an immersive and educational experience in the Adirondacks. You will explore diverse ecosystems including forests, wetlands, and rivers. Enjoy ranger-led programs and live animal encounters. Visiting The Wild Center is not just about learning; it’s about connecting with nature and fostering a love for the environment. This is another unique destination that promises to be unforgettable.
Find new ways to connect with nature through experiences like Wild Walk, Raquette River Roll, Forest Music and get to know some of the Adirondack animal ambassadors that call The Wild Center home.
This is an amazing natural history museum and environmental education center designed for families, nature lovers, and hikers. Enjoy hands-on displays, meet some animal ambassadors, and learn from environmental stewardship exhibits. If you are bringing the kids, take advantage of the discovery trails, scavenger hunts, and nature play zones.
Enjoy the Wild Walk, a trail of bridges that takes you to the treetops of the Adirondack Forest. You can visit a four-story twig tree house as well as a full-sized bald eagle’s nest at the highest point. After being up high, make it down to the ground to visit the Stickwork larger-than-life sculptures. Later, take an easy trail loop to listen to music made by nature and people.
Don’t miss the Raquette River Roll. An all-natural ball run trail. Engage with nature in an exciting new way. It’s interactive, it’s educational, and above all, it’s a fascinating and fun new way to experience the natural world in a natural setting.
When you are ready to explore indoors, there is so much to see. Start with walking through 5 different exhibit halls featuring amazing displays. Take a seat in the Flammer Theater and see one of their feature films. You can then go on the guided tour on the Planet Adirondack. The exhibit gives you a space-eye view of Earth, and using a high-tech system of cameras, staff can show you incredible views from space that show everything from airplanes taking off and landing across the planet in a 24-hour period to watching storms in real time. If you are daring, take a virtual reality tour as you fly like a bird while lying on your stomach and flap your arms like wings. The Birdly is a unique experience (for a small fee on your own).
A special exhibit will be on site at The Wild Center starting on June 1st - TROLLS: Save the Humans. Maybe you have seen the forest trolls on the new found in Colorado. This exhibit features six folklore-inspired activist Trolls that have come to teach humans how to rediscover nature and to inspire humans to be good stewards of the earth. The outdoor exhibition will fuse fairytales, whimsy, and incredible art installations to inspire visitors to explore themes such as recycling and reusing trash, the importance of plants and gardens, art and more.
Pets are not allowed inside exhibits or guided programs. However, well-behaved dogs on leash are welcome on some outdoor trails like River View Trail. Ask at the visitor center for exact map details.
Bring your walking shoes, binoculars, and cameras.
The indoor exhibits are wheelchair accessible. The Wild Walk boardwalk trail is stroller and wheelchair-friendly, though upper sections of the Tree Canopy Tower may involve stairs.
This tour offers a unique experience with a laid-back feel, all while learning about the environment and climate solutions.
Lunch is included at The Wild Center.
